Industry: trades and construction

Social media for trades and constructionfor jobs and skilled workers

Trade businesses usually look for two things on social media at once: the right jobs and new employees. We film on your building site and in your workshop and turn it into posts that show how your business works.

Who this page is for

This page is for trade businesses and companies in construction and interior finishing.

That includes electricians, plumbing, heating and air conditioning businesses, roofers, painters and varnishers, joiners and cabinet makers, carpenters, tilers, metalworkers, window fitters, landscapers, installers of solar panels and heat pumps, and construction companies and general contractors.

Is social media worth it for tradespeople?

For most trade businesses, social media is worth it if they are looking for skilled workers or apprentices or want to win specific jobs.

If you are fully booked and not hiring, you need it less urgently. But many businesses struggle with recruiting in particular, and there Instagram, TikTok and Facebook reach people who are not actively searching on job portals. For jobs, social media helps most when you want to offer certain work more often, such as bathroom renovations or heat pumps.

Consistency is what matters. Three posts in spring and then nothing for months achieve little. If nobody in the business has the time for it, outsourced management is usually the more realistic solution.

Formats and services that fit

This content suits the trades well because it shows work and people.

Building site videos

A work step in time-lapse, a detail in close-up or the moment of handover. Videos like these show how carefully your business works.

Employee videos

Journeymen, apprentices and master craftspeople tell why they work for you. This is the most direct route to new applications.

Explainer videos for customers

Short answers to questions your customers ask again and again, for example about subsidies, process or maintenance. This builds trust before the first call comes in.

Social media management

We take over content calendar, posts and replies to comments as your outsourced social media team, from €990 net per month.

Job ads as social ads

We run your job openings as ads on Meta and TikTok, targeted to your region. You pay the ad budget directly to the platform.

Logo and website

A consistent look on vehicles, workwear, website and social media. The Website Business with up to 8 pages costs €3,490 net.

Shoots on the building site

Good trade videos are made where the work happens, so we come to your building site or workshop for shoots.

We shoot on site mainly in North Hesse. We schedule the date so your people can keep working, and we usually need only a few hours. One shoot day produces material for several weeks of posts. Whether a shoot in your region is possible, we clarify in the initial call.

Legal and practical points to keep in mind

These points generally apply to shoots on building sites and at your business. They are no legal advice.

  • Employees must consent to the publication of their image under § 22 KUG (German Art Copyright Act). In an employment relationship, the Federal Labour Court requires this consent in writing (judgment of 11 December 2014, 8 AZR 1010/13).
  • Get the client's consent before filming on their property or in their house.
  • Do not show addresses, house numbers, licence plates or documents with customer data.
  • Occupational safety must be right on camera: protective equipment, fall protection, scaffolding. Viewers and professionals spot mistakes immediately.
  • Statements about subsidies, energy savings or prices must be correct and up to date, otherwise you risk a claim of misleading advertising under § 5 UWG (German Unfair Competition Act).

Common mistakes

  • Showing only finished work and leaving out the people behind it.
  • Starting without a plan and stopping again after a few weeks.
  • Placing job ads only on job portals, where skilled workers who are not currently searching never see them.
  • Filming employees without written consent.
  • Showing building sites with the customer's address or licence plate in the picture.
  • Not replying to comments and messages for days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is social media worth it for tradespeople?

For most businesses yes, especially if they are looking for skilled workers or apprentices or want to win specific jobs. The condition is that something appears regularly. If the business lacks the time for that, FNLY Social can take over the channels.

Which platform is right for trade businesses?

For jobs from private customers, Instagram and Facebook are usually the starting point, and TikTok is added for young applicants and apprentices. Construction companies working with business clients also use LinkedIn. Which channels suit you, we clarify in the initial call.

How much of our time does it take?

With outsourced management, you mainly need time for the shoots and short approvals. We plan a shoot day so your people can keep working, and one day produces material for several weeks.

Do you come to our building site?

Yes, FNLY Social shoots on site mainly in North Hesse. Whether a shoot in your region is possible, we clarify in the initial call.

Do our employees have to consent before we show them?

Yes. Under § 22 KUG consent is required, and in an employment relationship the Federal Labour Court requires it in writing. Ideally, the declaration also covers what happens to the videos when an employee leaves.

Does social media really bring applications?

Social media reaches people who are not actively searching but would switch for a good offer. Whether that leads to applications depends on your offer, the messaging and a simple way to apply. We cannot guarantee a result, but we make sure these points are right.

What does social media cost for a trade business?

Management by FNLY Social starts at €990 net per month for 2 channels and 8 posts, plus a one-off €490 for setup. Single videos without ongoing management start at €119 net. The ad budget comes on top separately.
