Industry: ecommerce and DTC

UGC for online stores and DTC brandsads you can actually test

If you sell online, you need a steady supply of new videos for ads, product pages and marketplaces. We produce UGC with several hooks and formats per video, so you can test which version sells and refresh before performance drops.

Who this page is for

This page is for companies that sell their products mainly online to consumers.

That includes stores on Shopify, WooCommerce or BigCommerce, DTC brands (direct to consumer, selling without retailers in between), sellers on Amazon, Walmart Marketplace or TikTok Shop, subscription boxes and founders launching their first product. Typical categories are apparel and accessories, home and kitchen, sports and outdoors, pet supplies, electronics accessories and home decor.

Typical goals in ecommerce

In ecommerce, UGC matters most where the buying decision happens: in the ad, on the product page and in the marketplace listing.

UGC stands for user generated content, meaning videos and photos in the style of real customers. In Meta and TikTok ads, these videos feel less like advertising and blend into the feed. On a product page they show size, material and handling that a studio photo cannot. Many brands also want to set realistic expectations so fewer orders come back.

The main goal is usually a predictable supply of ad creative. If you only run two or three videos, you soon cannot tell whether the product or the video is the problem.

Creative fatigue, variations and hooks

Creative fatigue means an ad loses impact because your audience has seen it too often.

Your cost per purchase then goes up even though nothing changed about the product. The most effective fix is new variations on a regular schedule. The fastest way to get them is the hook, the first two to three seconds of a video that decide whether someone keeps watching. That is why we shoot several openings per video while the main part stays the same.

The Ads package gives you 5 videos with 3 hooks each, so 15 testable variations, in 9:16 and 4:5. If you run ads all the time, the Monthly plan fits better: 10 new videos a month with 3 hooks each and raw footage, so your team or agency can cut its own versions too.

Formats and services that fit

These are the formats online stores and brands book from us most often.

Product demo and unboxing

A creator unpacks the product, shows what is in the box and how it works, and names the key features. Works for product pages and ads.

Problem and solution

The video opens with an everyday problem your buyers know and shows how your product solves it. This format is built for ads.

Testimonial style

A creator shares their own experience with the product on camera. The script reflects only claims you can back up and experiences the creator actually had.

Product and lifestyle photos

Photos for your store, Amazon and social channels, on white or in use. Photo packages start at $159 net for 5 images.

Ad management

We run your Meta and TikTok campaigns with content from our own production. You pay the ad budget directly to the platform.

Online store setup

If you do not have your own store yet, we build one with up to 50 products and payments from $5,790 net.

Amazon, Shopify and your own store

Marketplaces have their own rules for images and video, so we plan marketplace assets separately from ad creative.

Amazon, for example, requires a main image with the product on a pure white background, and uploading video to a listing depends on your seller account setup, such as Brand Registry. Walmart Marketplace and TikTok Shop have their own rules on text in images, logos and links to other channels. Tell us in your brief where the content will run, and we will match edit, format and content to it.

On your own Shopify store, short videos right on the product page work well when they show size, material and use. The same footage can often be cut for ads and social too, as long as the usage rights cover it.

US rules to keep in mind

These points generally apply to UGC for online stores in the US. They are no legal advice.

  • Usage rights must match how you use the video. A video licensed for organic posts is not automatically cleared for paid ads. Check that paid usage and its term are in your package.
  • Product claims must be true and substantiated. The FTC treats deceptive claims as unlawful, even when they come in a creator's casual tone.
  • A UGC video is an ad. Under the FTC Consumer Review Rule (16 CFR Part 465) you must not present it as an independent customer review, for example in the reviews section of your store or listing.
  • When a video runs from a creator's account, for example as a Spark Ad or through whitelisting, the paid relationship must be disclosed clearly, for example with “#ad” or a “Paid partnership” label, as the FTC Endorsement Guides require.
  • Music in the video needs a license that covers advertising. Sounds that are free to use in an app for personal posts usually do not cover ads.

Common mistakes

  • Running one or two videos and deciding after a week that UGC does not work.
  • Leaving the hook to chance, even though the first seconds drive the cost of the ad.
  • Buying ad creative without paid usage rights and paying for a license later.
  • Running the same video for months until cost per purchase climbs.
  • Using the same cut for Amazon and for ads, although the requirements differ.
  • Shipping the product late and pushing back the campaign launch. Allow time for international shipping and customs.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many UGC videos do I need for ads?

To test properly, run several videos with different hooks at the same time so you can compare. The FNLY Social Ads package gives you 5 videos with 3 hooks each, so 15 variations, for $1,490. If you advertise all the time, the Monthly plan with 10 videos a month keeps new creative coming.

How much does a UGC video cost for an online store?

At FNLY Social a single video up to 30 seconds costs $149 net, fully edited with sound and captions, including organic use and 12 months of paid ads. The Starter package with 3 videos costs $549. Shipping your product to our studio in Germany is on you.

What is creative fatigue?

Creative fatigue means an ad loses impact because the audience has seen it too often. Your cost per purchase rises even though nothing changed about the product. New hooks and variations are the usual fix.

How does my product get to you?

You ship it DDP to our studio in Germany and cover shipping, duties and import taxes. Products stay with us or are disposed of after the shoot. Return shipping to the US is possible, may trigger US duties and is quoted separately.

How fast do I get the videos?

FNLY Social delivers a single video 10 business days after your product arrives. Express delivery in 72 hours costs 40 % extra. For larger packages the quote names the delivery date.

Can I use the videos on Amazon?

That depends on your usage rights and on Amazon's requirements for your account. Tell us in your brief where the content will run, and we will cut a version that fits.

What are Spark Ads and whitelisting?

With TikTok Spark Ads and whitelisting on Meta, your ad runs from the creator's account instead of your brand account, which often looks more natural in the feed. At FNLY Social this costs $150 per creator per month. The ad must be disclosed as a paid partnership.

Can you run the ads for us?

Yes, we offer Meta and TikTok ad management as a separate service. You pay the ad budget directly to the platform, separate from our fee.
