UGC agency, platform or freelancer?Three ways to buy UGC

You can order UGC through a platform, directly from a creator or through an agency. Each route has its place. This article shows what you get with each and what work stays with you.

Short answer

A UGC platform is the cheapest option at about $70 to $100 per video if you can write the brief and pick creators yourself. A freelance creator, typically $150 to $300 per video, fits when you want one face for your brand and handle contracts yourself. A UGC agency at $200 to $400 per video fits when you want to hand off concept, script, casting and coordination.

When a platform fits better

A platform is the better choice when you already know which videos you need, write your own brief and want to pick creators yourself.

That often applies to brands with an in-house performance team that test many variations quickly. Platforms publish their prices, and Trend, for example, lists usage rights for ads in every plan. A US platform also fits better if you need creators to film on location in the US or if your product is hard to ship abroad. If you enjoy doing this work yourself, an agency charges you for something you do not need.

When a freelance creator fits better

A single creator fits when you want the same face for your brand over a longer period and prefer to work with that person directly.

In that case you handle usage rights, the model release, revisions and a backup plan yourself. Also agree in writing who pays for product shipping and how the creator discloses paid posts under FTC rules.

When an agency fits better

An agency fits when you have no time for concept, script, creator search and coordination and want a finished result with settled rights.

Make sure the agency states its prices and the scope of usage rights in writing up front. FNLY Social publishes both on its pricing page, charges $149 for a single video and $1,490 for five ad videos with script, and films in its studio in Germany, so you ship your product there on DDP terms.

Questions to ask every provider

These questions let you compare quotes regardless of provider type.

  • Which usage rights are included, for which channels and for how long?
  • Who writes the script, and how many hooks does each video include?
  • How many revisions are included?
  • Is there a signed model release for every person on camera?
  • What happens if a creator drops out?
  • Are there monthly fees on top of the price per video?
  • Do I get raw footage, and what does it cost?
  • Who pays for product shipping, duties and any return shipping?

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are UGC platforms legit?

Platforms are an established way to order UGC, and many publish their prices. Before you book, check which usage rights the terms grant and whether a monthly fee applies.

Is a UGC platform or a UGC agency cheaper?

Per video a platform is usually cheaper, about $70 to $100 compared with $200 to $400 at agencies. Add your own time for the brief, creator selection and review before you compare.

Can I hire creators directly on Instagram or TikTok?

Yes, and for long-term work it often makes sense. You then need to put the contract, usage rights and the model release in writing yourself.

What are the advantages of a UGC agency?

An agency handles concept, script, creator casting, filming and coordination and settles rights and releases. You have one point of contact and get a finished result.

Does FNLY Social work for other agencies?

Yes. Agencies can buy UGC from FNLY Social as white label, without FNLY branding and without contact with their client. Agency partners get 15 % off list prices from the first order, 20 % from 10 videos a month and 25 % from 25 videos a month.

Can FNLY Social film in the US?

No. FNLY Social films in its own studio in Germany, and there are no on-site shoots in the US. If you need US locations, a US platform or a local creator fits better.
